Annual No-Cost Event Provides Lifesaving Tips For Those at Risk or Living with Diabetes

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The statistics are staggering. More than 30 million people have diabetes, meaning one in 10 people have the disease, which left untreated can cause heart and kidney failure. Additionally, more than 80 million people have pre-diabetes, meaning one in three people have no idea they are at risk for developing the disease. Although the statistics sound ominous, Sun Health wants to spread the word that with the right information, it can be prevented or easily managed. This is why the non-profit organization, which has been providing health and wellbeing services to the west Valley for more than 50 years, wants to invite the community to its annual Diabetes Expo.

Friday, November 4

9 a.m. to noon

Grandview Terrace/Ballroom*

14515 W. Granite Valley Dr.

Sun City West, AZ

*Participants also have the option to participate via zoom

As mentioned, many people are at risk for diabetes, but have no idea they are in danger. This is why a key component of the event will be providing attendees with a pre-diabetes risk assessment.

“Whether you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, early detection, like any other disease, is the key in being able to take steps to mitigate the impact it has on the body,” says Julia Deen, Sun Health Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Self-Management Education Program Coordinator. “Diabetes can be controlled and in some cases, avoided. We will not only show you how, but provide the tools needed for success.”

During the event, a physician will be on-hand to present information about the latest trends in monitoring blood glucose levels, information key to anyone diagnosed with diabetes. Sun Health’s team of experts will also present information on easy lifestyle changes to help keep keep the disease at bay if you are at risk. Insurance industry experts will share vital information on choosing the right Medicare plan and there will be a highly anticipated visit from local produce grower Duncan farms as they share secrets to growing veggies in Arizona’s climate.

Media interested in interviews are asked to contact Rainey Daye Holloway with Sun Health’s marketing department at Rainey.DayeHolloway@SunHealth.org or via text at 602-321-0235. Sun Health is able to accommodate morning show requests.
