Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes is unknown, although both genetics and lifestyle factors, such as obesity and lack of exercise, play a role. Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in the country and is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States.
Common signs of diabetes include excessive hunger and thirst, fatigue, frequent urination, blurry vision, weight gain or loss, tingling pain or numbness in the hands/feet and poor wound healing. Diabetes is a progressive, chronic disease that can be managed through lifestyle adjustments such as nutrition and physical activity, as well as medication. These management techniques can assist in preventing diabetic complications such as vision problems, cardiac and circulatory issues and improve the lives of those living with diabetes.
At Sun Health Wellness, we’re proud to offer educational resources and provide nutritional guidance to help you better manage your condition. The majority of our diabetes programs are covered by most insurance plans. However, if your insurance does not provide coverage for the service you’re interested in, we offer our programs at a low out-of-pocket fee.
